Vanessa smiled at his discomfort, but she saw the flicker of... was it uncertainty to take her easy answer to her emotions? Ah, well, he was a smart guy, after all. She started when his hand wrapped around hers - it was bloody huge compared to her own, but, as she had always noticed when they had been 'together,' his hand seemed to fit with hers, like two puzzle pieces. Ignoring this thought, she clenched her arm as he gently pulled against it to stand, and then slowly dropped it, stuffing it into her pocket as she stared at anything that wasn't him. She worried her lip as she thought about his question. Where did she want to go?
Actually... She'd heard about a new club in downtown L.A. that was suddenly the only club worth talking about. The name was something like 'Zeng,' for it was hidden within the streets of Chinatown. And they could catch a bite to eat there. Excitement swelled in her chest as she voiced these ideas. "Well, we could head to Chinatown and grab something to eat, and then go to Zeng." She paused, unsure if he knew what 'Zeng' was. "It's a night club within Chinatown that a bunch of people have been raving about." She spun her hair around a finger as she spoke, nervous. "But we don't have to..."

Gabe had noticed her start when he gave her his hand, and as soon as he stood up she released it. He frowned slightly, unsure as to why she was uncomfortable when she was the one who had offered her hand to begin with. His own hand flew to his pocket in a mirror of her own motion. The other hand dropped from where it had been playing with his shirt and he slid that one into his pocket as well. Standing as such, with his shoulders hunched ever so slightly, his insecurity that he fought so hard to hide was slipped out some.
She suggested going to a place in Chinatown, then to Zeng. Being out every other night at some club or other, he had heard of Zeng, but never been there. It mattered to him less where they were going, however, and more that they were going together. She wanted to go to a club with him? He felt a cocky and flirtatious response coming on, but he pushed it down and just smiled. Be good, he berated himself. "No, it sounds like fun. Never been there before." The way she kept saying things like we don't have to was strange. She seemed almost as uncertain as he was.

Vanessa slid her other hand into her pocket before taking both out and running them through her blonde hair. She couldn't help her nervousness. Gabe had been the first person she'd let anywhere close to the vicinity of her heart and it had ended horribly. She could already feel herself opening up to him again and it scared her almost as much as the emptiness she'd felt days ago in a crowded her - how she'd been surrounded and it still felt as if she was on a huge island, abandoned, alone, and unbearably sad. She dropped her hands and wrung them, trying to wipe away the nerves that were sparking within her. She smiled slowly as he accepted, dark eyes lightening to a rich cerulean.
"Well... awesome. It should be fun." She stared at her bare feet, the stark yellow of the leaves beneath them contrasting greatly with the tanned skin. She bounced on her heels before lifting her gaze back to him. The small smile on her face was secretive but happy as she stared at him. "I have to go back to my..." She glanced away, unable to lie to him while looking him in the eye. She cleared her throat as her cheeks turned pink. "I have to go back to my apartment and get changed. I'll meet you in Chinatown in an hour, alright?" She was already backing away as she spoke. It would be the longest hour she'd have to endure for the first time in a while - anticipation would make the minutes drag by. She smiled at him once more before the shadows surrounded her, and the rip of clothing filled the air. The white wolf's glass blue eyes gazed at him for a moment before it turned and took off, leaving only tattered remains of a blue, green, and turquoise fabric behind.

Vanessa's nervousness continued to vex him. He couldn't understand where it was coming from. She had been the one to break it off, right when he felt they were making progress in opening up to each other. That was the raw wound that made him unable to leave her behind in his life. He had started to become vulnerable to her, to let her in some, and it has been a huge mistake. Part of him recognized that she was a lot like him, afraid to let people in, but another part wanted to remind her how he's stuck around, how he had not been with another since her. Hadn't he proven that he wasn't just playing around? Of course, the conundrum was that he was the exact same way with every single other person that had ever been in his life. He couldn't really blame her.
Her smile was slow, but more real this time. She blushed, hesitated mid-sentence. He had a feeling she was not being entirely truthful with him, but he nodded. "Sure thing. I've got to go clean up, myself." He'd been roaming the woods all day, and he could certainly do with a shower. His eyes followed her as she backed away, and he caught the sound of her clothes ripping. Her eyes blinked at him from the shadows, and he breathlessly met them with his own dark eyes before she disappeared. Elated, he turned and ran in a different direction, phasing as he went. Although he had folded his clothes neatly before, he didn't care about them now, and let them shred away from his wolf body. He wanted to howl with joy, with anxiety, but he knew she was close enough to hear him. So, he contented himself with running as fast as he could, exhilirated.
