A white wolf loped through downtown, staying to the shadows. When she neared the middle-class apartments, she slowed, tossing her white muzzle in the air to sniff for pedestrians before melting into the shadow. A flitting shadow ran through the door and leapt up the stairs before slipping into one of the apartments. Moments later, Vanessa was dressed in a straight black tuxedo shirt buttoned halfway down with a single button that covered most of her black one-piece bathing suit, as well as a black pair of short shorts. She grabbed her cell phone and checked the time. Her internal clock ticked - it'd taken her five minutes to get home; two minutes to change; and would take another six to get to the beach. With quick steps, Vanessa went downstairs and to the back of the building where her black Crotch Rocket waited in silence.
Throwing a leg over the Rocket and pulling on a coal-black helmet, she rolled it forward to the street before spinning the key and leaning forward. The motorcycle purred to life before growling pleasurably as Vanessa hit the gas and shot forward. Weaving in and out of traffic, Vanessa smiled eagerly. When she wasn't able to shift, her Rocket always gave her the necessary rush. With practiced ease, Vanessa dodged around a large Chevy and revved the engine, shooting down a straight away. The smell of sea water and sand and warmth filled her chest. She grinned wildly. She hadn't been to the beach in a few days. Slowing the bike, she parked it and hopped off. With smooth steps, she walked down to the water's edge and let the water lap at her toes. She wriggled them happily and stood up to her calves in the water while she waited for Damion and Opal.

Damion held on to his board and balanced the rest of the weight on top of his head as he crossed the chain-link fence and stepped onto the sand. He scanned the beach until he caught sight of V, then he whistled. DANG, she looked sharp on the Rocket and in a black tuxedo. Almost like a Government Agent. He just hoped she wasn't planning on going into the water in that. "Hey V!" He called, letting go of the board with one hand and waving at her. "Over here." There were some sharp rocks down the beach that he wanted to avoid at all costs; even experienced boarders sometimes got into trouble on them. "Alright." He said, burying the tip of his board into the sand, propping it up. "Which one of you wants to try it first?" He was faced away from the shore, and just as he finished speaking another monster wave, this time only about six feet tall, broke the sand on the shore. Maybe it wasn't that good of a day for beginners.... Damion had on his blue jean shorts and nothing else. They were faded from many previous salt water dips, but they served their purpose well.

Opal was a bit behind Damion and her eyes went wide when she saw Vanessa. She looked nice, she actually had a bathing suit, and here Opal was with ragged jean shorts and a blue t-shirt. Well, Opal knew surfing didn't matter what you wore, she she was good with wearing what she had right now. She yelled, "HI VANESSA!" Opal then said to Damion, "Uh, Vanessa can go first if she likes, I want to see how it's done kinda first." She looked over to Vanessa, and the back to Damion, and then to the waves. She felt a wave of panic go through her, but she tried to shake it away. Stay calm.
Opal pulled off her shoes and through them out of the way so they wouldn't get washed up or anything like that. She then got a ponytail holder that was on her wrist and quickly put her hair up into a ponytail. She usually didn't wear ponytails, but she wanted to be able to see when she was surfing.

Vanessa heard the car before it arrived but remained where she was. The moon's gentle glow was comforting as it wrapped her in an ethereal light. At her name, however, she turned. V nearly laughed at Opal's exuberant call. She loped up to her bike, slipping out of her shorts and shirt, before running over to the shifters. She grinned at Opal, but immediately felt bad. "I'm sorry, Op, I didn't grab you a suit. I could run back..." She took two quick steps backward. Her mouth dropped open for a moment when Opal volunteered her to go first. She grimaced but nodded. "I'll go." After all, it might help Opal loosen up a bit if she saw V fall on her arse a few times. She turned to Damion, brow raised.
Her long arms were folded over her chest, her head tilted. He didn't think she could do it. It was clear on his face - or at least, he thought she would have greater difficulty. Her eyes narrowed. She'd show him. Taking a long stride, she came to stand next to him. Her eyes ran over the board, brows raising in surprise. It was much bigger than she'd thought it would be. She clenched and unclenched her fists, taking a deep breath. Come on, V, snap out of it. You love this stuff. It'll give you another outlet. Breathe, damnit. She looked up at Damion. "Right, let's get started. Do your worst." Well, at least after tonight she wouldn't have to worry about being embarrassed around them - she wouldn't see them after this. She sighed mentally. This would be fine.

Damion lifted his brow right back at V, imitating her stance. "Right, let's get started. Do your worst." She said. Damion stifled a laugh, loving the way she looked a little 'peaked around the edges', and pulled his board out of the sand.
"Alright, I'll do it first and so you have the general idea what to do. Then I will take you out and show you. Hopefully we'll be able to catch one of the smaller waves."With that, he hefted the board over his shoulder and loped out towards the water. When it was deep enough to reach the top of his jeans, he put the board down and started paddling out.
At a certain distance, he turned the board back towards the beach so he was facing the girls. With a quick wave, he grinned and glanced back. A very large wave, maybe about seven feet high, was coming his way. He could already feel the slight swell under him, so he dipped his arms in the water and started paddling back to the shore as quick as he could. His powerful arms surged him forwards, but no as quick as the waves. As soon as the board started to tip forwards on the edge of the wave, Damion stood up, his arms and feet spread, and rode it.
He surged along the edge of the wave, the curl of it barely over his head. His arms out for balance, his fingertips skimmed the edge of the wave just barely, shooting up a fine spray behind him.
The sandy beach was getting closer, very quickly. V and Opal were getting closer, so Damion yelled and waved at them, sending them a thumbs up. Finally, the wave crashed on to the shore and Damion with it. He sat up, sputtering, and shook his hair out of his eyes. Grabbing the board, he ran back to the other two. "Alright, ready?" He asked enthusiastically, totally pumped. "You don't have to come to a stop like that though. After the wave gets smaller close to the shore, you can go right over it."

[im gunna post next because it kind of makes sense - plus ill be gone til tuesday so... sorry if it sucks. im rushing.]
Vanessa rolled her eyes at him and watched as he swam out. She was impressed by the pull he had. However, it wasn't quite unique, seeing as most weres could heft quite a bit more weight than most beings. She watched carefully, seeing the gentle swell beneath him as the wave came in, just as he stood up. His feet were spread evenly apart, with less weight on the front of the board than the back. She smiled in amusement as he whooped and waved. She grinned at Opal, rolling her eyes at the male's peculiar behavior. When he crashed into shore, she nearly laughed aloud but, from years of practice, held in the bubbly burst. She tilted her head at him as he spluttered after coming up. Walking towards him, she pulled her thick hair into a tight bun at the nape of her neck and lifted his board with ease.
"Alright, surfer, let's see how good a teacher you really are."
She ran out into the water, the coolness of it refreshing against her hot skin. V moved out until she was about knee deep in the gentle waves and got onto the board, knees tucked beneath her as she used her long arms to pull herself forward, farther out from the beach so that she could catch a wave. When she got to about where Damion had been, she spun around and watched over her shoulder. The first swell that came was too small for anything, and the next was just a bit bigger. Finally, a swell - six feet high and much wider - built towards her. She grinned at the anticipation that filled her.
She waited for the gentle lap of water beneath her - just as Damion had - before using her arms to propel forward. As the board tipped, uncertainty swelled in her chest. She stood quickly, if not shakily, and planted her feet. Her lean body was outlined by the wave. She stretched her arms out to keep her balance, and kept her knees bent a bit. When she was certain she wouldn't just topple over, she ran her fingers through the wave and grinned widely. The adrenaline pumping through her veins was exhilarating. As she rode the wave, she lost her balance and fell back into the wave, and disappeared within it.
For a few moments, she didn't come up. Instead, she kicked easily beneath the water, against the current, as the wave she'd ridden crashed into shore. She swam breaststroke, easily holding her breath. Finally, she burst from the water, grinning even as she wiped salt water from her eyes. She ran to Opal, giving her a victorious hug, before turning to Damion and hugging him fiercly.
"That was amazing, Damion!" She turned to Opal. "You'll love it!" She hugged Damion once more, unthinking. "I can't believe I've been missing out on that! She grabbed the board up and handed it to Opal. "Go get 'em!" She laid down, grinning and laughing as she lay on the still-warm sand. The feeling had been glorious. Adrenaline still coursed through her.

Opal watched as Damion took his board and got in the water. She frowned a bit, she didn't know if she would be able to do it. Damion made it seem pretty easy, but Opal was pretty sure she'd mess up some way. She grinned as Damion crashed into shore and then gave Vanessa the board. She stood there, wondering how she would do. She felt herself holding her breath as Vanessa started out into the water. She bit her lip, would she be ok? She saw her fall off the board and she let out a small gasp. She hoped it wasn't that loud. She told herself not to worry, but she didn't see her come up. She did let out a sigh of relief as Vanessa came back up. She hugged Vanessa back as she hugged her and said, "Good job!"
Opal frowned as Vanessa handed her the board. She was a bit nervous now. She kind wanted to back out, but then she would look like a fool, Vanessa had done it, and so she didn't want to be the only one that didn't do it. She knew surfing was just asking for disaster. Opal took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She got into the water about where she saw Vanessa was, and then she got onto the board, awkwardly. She frowned as she almost fell off just trying to get on the board. She didn't have that good of balance. She the paddled herself out farther using her arms. She quickly looked back at Vanessa and Damion. She was really scared, what if she embarrassed herself, what if she drowned?
Opal sighed and got in the area where she saw both Damion and Vanessa go and looked for a wave. Her eyes widened in shock, it was about the same size of the one Damion rode on, about seven feet. She held her breath and she whispered, "Oh no, oh no, please no." She wasn't ready, she was frozen in place, and she could feel the swell. It took her a minute to start paddling towards shore, she tried to hide the panic on her face as the wave finally caught up to her. She stood up on the board steadily and she was kind of crouching on the board, not standing up that straight. She then put her arms out for balance. She gasped as she felt her legs start to wobble. She then let out a short scream as she fell over the front of the board and fell into the water. Although her scream probably couldn't be heard because of how fast she went into the water.
Opal tried to swim toward the top of the water, she needed air. She let out another gasp as she reached the top. She looked around for the board and when she found it quickly swam over to it. She then swam out and stood by Vanessa and Damion. She handed the board back to Damion, and surprised herself by having a huge grin on her face, and her eyes were lit up. She had enjoyed it, the falling into the water was the best part!

Damion laughed as V made it and came back on shore, dragging the board. The way she was totally ecstatic was hilarious. "Good job!" He told her. "I'm surprised, you actually did very well. Are you sure this was your first try?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at her. He turned around to watch Opal take her turn, noting how she also looked a bit nervous. He watched her paddle out, and then he saw a huge wave heading her way. At first he thought she would just let it pass, and then he sucked in breath as he saw her decide to ride it. She stood up shakily, and looked like she almost had it. Then with a small scream, she fell off. Damion burst into laughter again, thurouly amused. Damion watched for her to come up, and was slightly nervous when she didn't right away. He was prepared to jump in after her when he saw her head emerge. When she got back, she handed Damion the board and had a smile on her face fit to split. Damion laughed and laid his arm on both of their shoulders. “That was a great spill.” He told her. “I bet you LOVED it.” Surprisingly, it seemed as she had. "Wow! I feel like a total loser now! It took me FOREVER to even be able to do as good as you guys did." He let go and grabbed his board.
"Do you guys want to try again, or go see if we can find something to eat?"In all honesty, he was hungry. But not hungry enough that it bothered him. The cut on his cheek from the earlier fight hurt slightly, but he barely noticed it. It was starting to get really dark now, and the sharks would be prowling soon. It was still fun to swim though; maybe they could do that later too.

Vanessa smiled encouragingly at Opal before the girl moved a but uncertainly towards the water. She felt a bit bad - Opal looked completely uncomfortable and worried. She glanced at Damion, elbowing him lightly. "Way to be the guy and go help her." Her whisper was playful, but the worry for Opal was clear in her eyes as she watched her get on the board and nearly fall off the other side. She was reminded of the circus when the clown climbed on the horse and the saddle swung around so the clown was upside down, beneath the equine. She nearly laughed, but was still preoccupied by Opal. She watched intently as the girl rose up unsteadily and soon after plunged into the wave. She took a step forward to run into the water but Opal was already coming up. Even from V's distance, she could see the excitement in Opal's eyes.
Vanessa listened to Damion congratulate Opal in silence. She smiled at the girl, but said nothing, merely patting her on the arm and mouthing 'very nice.' She was lost in thought already when Damion mentioned food. She lifted her gaze to encompass both of them. "I'm up for whatever. Food, swimming, partying, sleeping..." She let her words trail off as she stared out at the ocean, arms crossed over her chest as she tried to warm up.

Opal's clothes and hair were drenched in water, but she actually didn't really care except for the cold that came with it. She grinned at Damion and said, "That was so fun!" She wasn't afraid anymore, she wouldn't drown, why had she been worrying so much. She then mouthed thanks to Vanessa and then said to Damion, "I'll do whatever too, just as long as we do something." Opal's legs started to shake a bit as she felt the wind go against them. They could go eat, but people might wonder if she fell into the ocean or something, she'd just have to deal with that though. Her clothes would dry soon.
Opal went over to her shoes and put them back on. She frowned as the sand that was stuck to her feet got in with it. She hated it when sand did that. She would have to dump out the sand later or do something. She shivered again as the wind came again, she wouldn't mind going into a nice warm place, but she would do whatever Damion and Vanessa wanted to do.

"You okay, V?" Damion asked, curious. She was strangely quiet. She hadn't hurt herself or anything, had she?
"I think you both need to get warm." Damion said with a laugh, seeing them both shivering. "Let's go check out the fire down there,” He motioned with his head down the beach where it seemed as someone had started a bonfire down there. He could also distinctly smell hot dogs.
"We'll go see who made the fire." He went on, only worried a little that it might be vampires. It would probably be humans though; vampires didn't tend to hang around the beach too much. He didn't altogether know why, but he suspected that some of them might still have the glittering in the sun problem. It seemed as if a lot of them had gotten over the little problem though.
He slung the board over his shoulder and started padding in the direction that the fire’s light was coming from. It was a good half-a-mile down the beach and there didn’t seem to be too many people hanging around tonight. It was a week night and it was starting to get really late. Most of the other surfers had gone home too, not wanting to brave the rocks in the dark.
“You two coming?” He asked, glancing back again.

Vanessa smiled at him. Yeah, I'm fine. Just cold. She saw the fire when he did and the distinct smell of hotdogs. Her stomach growled and she laughed quietly. I think my stomach decided for me. Come on, Ope. She gently tugged on Opal's hand before rolling her eyes at Damion. Last one there's a mangy mutt. She took off, her long legs carrying her swiftly towards the fire. No thought of it being a group of vampires crossed her mind. Vampires were notorious for staying away from the beach, not wanting to test their boundaries and let their skin give them away.

Opal smiled at Vanessa and then looked around to find the fire that Damion had mentioned. She wouldn't mind a nice warm fire, considering she was freezing her butt off and soaking wet. She was kind of hungry now that she thought of it too, smelling hot dogs. Opal then turned to Vanessa as she tugged her hand. She grinned and said, "I can already guess who the mangy mutt is going to be." She then pretended to cough and said Damion's name while doing so, saying that he was going to be the mangy mutt, but trying not to let him hear.
With that Opal then started chasing after Vanessa, trying to beat her. The wind blowing against her wet clothes while she ran made her feel even more cold. She ran faster though, so she could soon be by the warmth of the fire.

"Hey!" Damion yelled, lumbering after the girls. "Take's a mangy mutt to know one! And I heard that Opal!" Both girls were thuroughly amusing, a hoot to hang out with. Damion felt lucky to have been able to hook up with them tonight; he would of just come down here and surfed until morning, or sat alone at some random fire, maybe drink a beer or two. He ran through the sand after the girls, not tired but not altogether running as hard as he could either. Both girls had long, thin legs where he had muscular ones, and they didn't tend to move as fast. He grumbled good naturedly, pulling up closer behind the girls as the fire got closer, his board balanced on his head and his arms up to hold it. It didn’t slow him down much, but it wasn’t altogether helping him either. From the speed, it looked like they were going to cover the mile in about six minutes. About as fast as a normal human ran a mile. Dang, they should really slow down some. But it wasn't like they were sprinting or anything. At least Damion wasn't.
Ooc- alright, I'm going to try to find some vampires or humans who want a fight.

Post by David Tanner on Nov 26, 2008 11:40:51 GMT -5
It was times like these when Tanner missed the ability to just sleep away the night. Sometimes it could be so boring. His meanderings had brought him down to the beach, not for the first time, and he had ended up seating himself on the sand not far from the rushing waves. There was a campfire nearby, but he could tell that the shapes around it were vampires, not people. He didn't have to act human out here, with no one to see him, and so he had been staring out, fixated, at the water and the horizon for a long time now. There was no reason for him to shift his weight, or even to blink. The rising and falling of his chest, in rythm with the waves, was habit alone. He liked the smell of the sea though, even now.
His thoughts wandered, as they often did when he was alone, to nothing in particular. He often tried to recall memories from his human life, such as his family, his friends, even his school days. Those times were getting farther and farther away, whereas the ugly time he spent in Vietnam only seemed to grow stronger in intensity. It didn't seem fair that he should lose the happy times, and have to remember the worst. However, David was an optimist, and turned his attention instead to the men in his unit in the war. He was pleased, at least, that he could remember their faces. They had been his brothers, his partners in that dark time.
A sudden raucous cry from beyond the campire caught his attention, and he stood, turning in that direction and straining to see and hear what had made the sound. The vampires beside the fire blocking his view had frozen as well, and he could hear the sound of several pairs of feet running up the beach towards them. As they got closer, there was no mistaking the people for what they were. Werewolves. Instinctively tensing his muscles, he moved a little closer to the fire to see what would happen when the natural enemies met, and to help if he could.
ooc: I hope this is okay. If you guys don't like any part of it, let me know, I'll change it (:
