The coming of night. Most look forward to it, embrace it. The flurry of activity finally dies down and you can relax. Lights go down, people retire indoors, and peace settles over everything. Here in Los Angeles, Calfornia, the coming of night means something completely different.
It's 1992 and new opportunities are springing up all over the place. The wealthy can afford cellular telephones, the hospitals have new vaccines, and boy bands are taking over the world. It looks promising, doesn't it?
Something much bigger is happening in L.A. than technology and musical sensations, however. An unspoken evil stalks the night. Not everyone has noticed what's been going on, but stories are beginning to spread. Tall tales of beings with pale skin, yellow eyes, and demonic faces. Freaks shrouded in shadow. The only people who believe these wives tales are the ones who have experienced them first hand and lived to tell about it.
There are people, a select group, who know the truth about the creatures and have devoted themselves to ridding the city of their torment. They are not blessed with extreme strength like the creatures they hunt; they're mere mortals. Vampires, these hunters call them. Taking no glory or name for their own, this peculiar group is known to their enemy only as the White Hats.
As the vampires grow more out of control, innocent people die. The undead force also seems to be growing, which means they're changing people with intent. Contrary to legend, one bite doesn't seem to be enough; the stories are all from those who've been bitten and somehow escaped, and they are The White Hats. They are doing all they can but the vampires are smart and not easily defeated. They've staged their assault well. L.A. is a large and well populated city, murders happening every day. Most of them go unsolved. Most humans remain unaware.
Still, some of these murders are even more unsettling. There is something more going on in the city. Something neither side is prepared for. Something no one understands. Strange sightings of massive wolves roaming the streets. A lot of people stay high in L.A.; it's often written off as hallucination.
Welcome to Los Angeles, where with the falling sun comes rising mortality.
